  1. April 1998- June 2002, Ph.D. degree in agricultural sciences (Integrated Pest Management, Biological control), with distinction and first honour degree (1.0), institute of phytopathology, university of Bonn, Bonn, Germany.

    The Ph.D. study was done with a full scholarship from the German academic exchange service (DAAD).

  2. 1994-1996, M.Sc. degree in agricultural sciences (Plant protection, Integrated pest management, entomology), with distinction GPA 90.6% (first on class 1996). University of Jordan, Amman, Jordan. GPA obtained was so far the highest since the establishment of the department of plant protection, University of Jordan in 1974. The Master-thesis was done with a full scholarship from the German academic exchange service (DAAD), and a teaching and research assistantship from the university.

  3. 1988-1992, Bachelor degree in agricultural sciences, with Excellent and first on class 1992. University of Jordan, Amman, Jordan. Magna cum laude. GPA obtained was so far the highest since the establishment of the department of plant protection in 1974.

Professional Experience :

  • (September2003 – Present) Assistant professor, Dept. of Life Sciences, Faculty of Science & Technology, Al-Quds University, Abu Dees, Jerusalem.

  • (July2003 – September2003) National consultant for UNDP and FAO, Preparing the work plan for the pilot project: Agricultural Revitalization Programme (ARP) in the West Bank and Gaza Strip, which is to be implemented by the UNDP, FAO and Palestinian ministry of agriculture, Ramallah, Palestine.

  • (June2002 – June2002) Postdoctoral fellow, department of plant protection, faculty of agriculture, University of Bonn, Bonn, Germany.

  • (October1996 – October1997) Research-project-co-ordinator, Ministry of agriculture, Ramallah, West Bank. Job included: co-ordinating joint projects on agricultural development and food safety, between the ministry and other governmental and nongovernmental organisations (UNDP, UNIDO, ICARDA, IFAD, and USDA), writing up proposals on the same issue, and being a counterpart for some international consultants.

  • (December1993 – September 1994) Research Assistant, Applied Research Institute-Jerusalem (ARIJ). Job included collection of information concerning agricultural biodiversity, food security and the important plant pests and pesticide usage in the West Bank, as well as in the neighbouring countries, analysis of data, compiling of information on pesticide usage in the Middle East and report and proposal writing.

Professional Activities :

  • Representing Palestine with a presentation in the international workshop on “Risk Reduction of Agrochemicals in the Afro-Arab Region”, launching a pilot project to establish an Information Network to exchange information on plant protection solutions and agrochemicals-risk management and regulation between the member countries, organised by UNDP, and UNIDO and held in Port Luis, Mauritius. 4 - 6.12.1996.

  •  Member in the national team working on the project "Environmental profile of Palestine", the project was co-ordinated by the Applied Research Institute-Jerusalem and was carried out in the period 1995 – 1998.

Professional Training :

 

·       Participant in the Rotational Advanced Studies Program (RASP), Plant protection in international agricultural development. Course included: international agricultural research and fund raising, pesticide toxicology and registration, crop loss assessment, microbial interactions, advanced methods of diagnosis.
